- Doula Riley and Doula Adele: my colleagues Riley and Adele are fantastic and inclusive birth and postpartum doula, ensuring each family have the support they need no matter what!
- Doula Brielle: A wonderful woman, mother, and colleague of mine that offers her birth doula services in both English and Spanish.
Postpartum Doulas:
- Doula Susan: my colleague Susan is an incredible postpartum doula! Located in NW Calgary, Susan brings a wealth of experience, humour, and love to the families she supports. Susan is also willing to travel around Calgary to support families rurally. (and, if you check out her website, spy the logo I designed for her!)
Postpartum health and mental health:
- Moss Postpartum House: a variety of health care professionals that offer a wide range of postpartum care and health supports, such as pelvic floor health, counselling, massage, feeding support, etc.
- Families Matter: a non-profit organization that offers parent/child classes, educational classes, group support, and independent support groups for all families. Most-- if not all-- of these classes are offered at no cost.
Breastfeeding resources:
- La Leche League: An international group of breastfeeding parents, lactation consultants, leaders, and other professionals who offer peer and professional support to other breastfeeding parents. The website contains tons of articles and other resources for parents who want to breastfeed.
- Northern Star Mother's Milk Bank: A charitable organization that offers donated breastmilk to families in need. Northern Star Milk Bank has donor milk available for purchase at some participating locations. Breastfeeding parents can also apply to donate their milk here.
Crisis resources:
- Distress Centre: 24/7 support for individuals experience mental health crises.
- Made by Momma: A non-profit organization that helps families facing crisis and adversity. Can provide prepared meals, baby essentials, clothing, etc. in times of need.
- Ruth's House: A non-profit organization that helps individuals and families dealing with domestic violence in the African community. There are programs for women, men, families, children, couples, and mothers.
- Mamas for Mamas: a charitable organization that helps mamas and caregivers in crisis situations. Mamas for Mamas offers information, resources, workshops, a Karma Market, and more to parents in need. Mamas for Mamas started in Kelowna, but has chapters in Calgary, Kitchener, Vancouver, and Kamloops.
Parenting support groups:
- NE Calgary Moms: A Facebook group of moms who are seeking to help or be helped. A place to find food hampers, clothes, classes, social groups, and more in the NE.
- Mommy Connections YYC: An organization that offers mom and baby classes, parent meetups, workshops, and more!
